本教材是根據(jù)全國翻譯專業(yè)資格（水平）考試英語口譯（3級）大綱規(guī)定的關(guān)于“口譯綜合能力”測試的要求修訂。原有編寫體例保持不變，但對原教程內(nèi)容、材料作了較大幅度的修訂。修訂后的教材，題材更加豐富廣泛。修訂版教材更換了原書中時效性較強的文章，有五個單元的材料全部更新，其他各單元的內(nèi)容也多有增刪。全書最后附設(shè)4套模擬試題。修訂后的教材更注意語言材料的真實度和現(xiàn)實性。
本教材共分16個單元，每單元分4個部分，分別訓練“口譯綜合能力”測試中要求的不同技能。每部分列出的詞匯和注釋可以在放錄音前由學生預習或由老師略作解釋。一般情況下，錄音放一遍后即可做有關(guān)練習。但是，教師可根據(jù)學生的實際水平和錄音材料的難易程度，重放錄音1至2遍后再做練習。
教材中并附4套模擬考試樣卷，其題型與實際考試完全一樣，難度相當，讀者可據(jù)以測試自己的水平。本書對如何準備英語口譯（3級）的“口譯綜合能力”考試以及答題技巧作了詳細介紹，分析了近年英語口譯“綜合能力”考試的實考試題，應該對讀者有所幫助。
